NOTD To Infinity & Beyond!!! My Stab at Trying a Nebula Nails Manicure

I’ve seen this trending a bit online, so the other day I broke down and looked for tutorials (picture, because my computer has no sound) on how to achieve this awesome nail look. It’s no secret I love nail stamping, but I also like to try different things too… But by no means am I a “pro” at doing my own nails. Unlike some of the fantastic bloggers I’ve seen with impeccable applied polish, amazing cuticles, and beautiful designs… I can say mine really don’t compare.

My cuticles are a hot mess, I didn’t clean up this manicure properly… And since I don’t leave a gap between my cuticle and polish, I’m one of “those girls” who apply riiiight up to it. Yeah- growing out, it’s not so sexy to have that ridge of polish that’s just… There. The gap reminds me of my not-so-patiently waiting to get my formerly acrylic-ed nails filled. I hated it. So I paint the whole thing. This time though, my cleanup brush finally gave out on me. It was an Eco-Tools eyeshadow brush, but it was shaped so nicely I used it to do my French Tips. But the bristles started to adjust, move all around, and finally got so bad I had to pull some fibers out… Then trim the entire thing to keep its shape… And it pissed me off so badly the other night while cleaning up my nails I just chucked it. Definitely not what I was expecting for such a good brush… Or the end it met in the garbage bin.

Anyways- these came out pretty good, all things considered. They’re not ideal, but for a first go-round… I’m pretty proud! I am NOT, however, showing you my thumbs. I tried to “galaxy” them… And it totally didn’t work. So you don’t get to see this time around! I’ll definitely be doing this again because it’s so fun, and I love the depth and way the colors act with each other. All that I did was use a cosmetic sponge I snipped into uneven pieces, so that I’d have more texture that way! Dip in a dot of polish, and start applying colors- you can go any way you want, but I did blues, greens, pinks, grey, yellow, orange, and then added some black back in. When I was happy with what I had, I put random daubs of the glitter polish on each nail, and then finished it all off with my Seche Vite Quick Dry Top Coat. I did go back and dig out all the polishes I used, so they’re below:

Base Coats:
1 coat Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Un-Named Dark Maroon
1 coat Sinful Colors What’s Your Name - Black base with subtle purple and blue glitter flecks

Nebula Colors:
Sinful Colors
Forget Now – Magenta with shimmer
Courtney Orange - Orange shimmer
Unicorn - Pale, buttery yellow
Mint Apple - Dusty pastel teal
Irish Green - Bright, bright green
Gorgeous - Iridescent blue with turquoise and dark blue shift
Frenzy - Purple-magenta and aqua glitter polish
Sally Hansen
High Definition Nail Color in 05 Lite - Metallic bright yellow
Nail Prisms in 05 Emerald Amethyst - Green to purple iridescent shifter with a bronze flash
Harley - Soft concrete gray with silver shimmer

Next time, I also won’t have awful looking “stars”.

What do you think?
Have you tried making your own “Nebula or Galaxy Nails”?

      Thank you Sarah!! :)

  • MissMidnightBlue

This is AWESOME! :D I love it! I’d do this, but I’m just too lazy. LOL Maybe one of these days I will get off my butt and try this. And many other nail art stuff. haha

    • Snarky Princess

      Thank you MissMidnightBlue!
It didn’t take much time at all to do- I was pleasantly surprised! Less time than stamping! I want to get better at this, because I LOVE it! Freehand design is not something I’m good at- but abstracts like this are perfect because they really can’t be screwed up… Unless it’s my thumbs ;) LOL

  • Cosette Zammit

Love it! I will definitely try this! :)

    • Snarky Princess

It’s certainly fun Cosette, but less really is more when doing the designs :D

Ouch about the brush. I wouldn’t expect an Ecotools brush to do that. >.<

On another note, this is very nifty! Sounds like something that even someone with really shaky hand would be able to do. :D

    • Snarky Princess

I know, right!? My other EcoTools brushes are just FIIIIINE, but that one… PSSHHHHT. Must’ve been put together wrong or something.

And yes- I have shaky hands most days- and the shaking helped! LOL

  • Robyn Skinner

Awesome! I keep meaning to try this! I want to use tiny rhinestones for the stars but I don’t have any really dinky ones at the moment.

    • Snarky Princess

Oooohhh that’s a good idea Robyn! I have some, but they’d be too large for it… Hrmm… I wonder if they make 1mm rhinestones hahaha!!!
      And thank you :D

  • Mandy

Wow! For a first try, these are really awesome. I am no good with nails so I am totally impressed by this

    • Snarky Princess

      Thanks Mandy!!
This can be done by ANYONE! And if you screw up, just add more of the background/base color to darken up areas with too much color! And just using a sponge worked perfectly!

  • Vulcan_Butterfly

These look awesome! I’ve been meaning to try something like this!

    • Snarky Princess

Thank you Vulcan! I want to do it again… I’ve just been lazy lately :D
